The Connection Between Toxic Masculinity & Silicon Valley Bubble Bursting

The article put out by Pando.com and entitled, The Toxic Masculinity Bubble Has Burst does a fabulous job of highlighting the connection between toxic masculinity and leadership in Silicon Valley. It says, "When companies are celebrated for breaking laws, founders are given total control, there’s no board oversight, and young men are told to “ask forgiveness, not permission” are we really surprised that predators like Justin Caldbeck thrive? That men exploit the power asymmetry to see what they can get away with?

It also explains why people in Silicon Valley who claim to be so obsessed with data are simply ignoring it when it comes to everything from the clear and well documented benefits of diverse teams to the diminishing returns on productivity and health if you work more than 50 hours a week. It’s all about fragile male ego founder anxiety. And plenty of men are victims of that cycle too."

The author of the article speaks a different kind of bubble bursting...unlike the ones we have seen in the past related to the stock market. Toxic masculinity creates the traditional victim persecutor rescuer triangle that currently resides in many company cultures, especially in Silicon Valley where the bro culture reigns.

The real opportunity is for these leaders to embrace the healthy masculinity which subscribes to  emotional literacy, accountability, and the heart centered leadership paradigm.

It's time for these men to throw away what it means to be a "real man" and step on the path of becoming a better man for themselves , their companies, their relationships and their communities.

It is these concepts and more that more than 200 men will step into at the Better Man Conference in San Francisco in September of 2017.  Women are invited as well as there are benefits for their attendance too.
